It Matters Canada

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,

These are the games you never forget.

It doesn’t matter who you are and where you play. It doesn’t matter that nobody knows your name or your background. It doesn’t matter that this wasn’t the Team Canada we wanted or you wanted on the ice.

It matters that they lost, to Germany, fricking Germany, who didn’t qualify for the last Olympics, and lost the opportunity to play for gold in hockey, not being defeated. Beating themselves.

It matters that they lost and these players we’ve barely come to know will live with this undisciplined defeat, this game lacking direction and common hockey sense, and they will carry this 4-3 loss around with them, probably for the rest of their lives.

I guess we can safely assume the NHL returns for the next Olympics, since Canada won’t want to risk another banner loss like this?

The fact that all the to talent of both the u.s. and Canada are in the NHL while all the European teams have a lot of their high end players in the kHL and local leagues means nothing. Whatever

Yep. Because if there’s anything we know it’s that the NHL does everything they can to make the Canada happy.  rolleyes

You know little gary bettman is loving this vampire

The NHL players have only themselves to blame for having such a weak union.
They should of played and it should be in their CBA so weasel lawyers like bettman and daly cannot so NO.

After the Canadian women lost to the Americans for gold, and the men’s curling team lost to USA in the semi final, there were Canadian headlines that said “Worst Day in Canadian Sports History?”

I imagine losing to Germany might top that, all by itself. Add that the curling team lost the bronze to Switzerland and didn’t even medal….

It’s seeing the crying from schlubs like Simmons that makes it all worth it.

Well I can say we didn’t want to end up in first place medal standings so we had to gear back.  However to the whiners, we almost got into the gold game with a bunch of ECHL players.  That’s pretty good, and its safe to say that most of Europe couldn’t beat a good AHL team.  So if the NHL is not going back to the O’s how about releasing the AHL players?  or do we keep sending Senior “A” semi-pros?

As a Canadian, I think it’s great for the game. The Germans put a lot of effort into this team, while not expecting much. It’s a big deal in Germany. They earned it. Looking forward to the next coach’s corner.
Oh, and Kudos to U.S. womans hockey. They earned it too! Seems like the press tries to get everyone’s poop in a knot & send the country into a national crisis every time they lose at curling or hockey LOL
