from Michael Traikos of the National Post,
Imagine a scenario where the Montreal Canadiens win the Stanley Cup this summer and the Edmonton Oilers once again end up with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
It could happen. And it’s not even the weirdest thing about the NHL’s plan of returning to play this summer.
With the regular season officially over, the NHL is now looking towards a 24-team post-season that involves a qualifying “play-in” round for 16 bubble teams, a round-robin to determine seeding for the top four teams in each conference, and a potential best-of-five series for the first and second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Before all that, there will be a draft lottery. Well, two of them perhaps.
“This is a bit complicated,” Bettman said in a video conference on Tuesday evening. “As if whatever I already told you hasn’t been. And I apologize for that.”
