It Appears Laviolette Is Safe In Philly

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,

Forget the rumors about Peter Laviolette being fired after the season.

It sounds as if the Flyers’ fiery coach is staying.

Without formally announcing it, general manager Paul Holmgren gave Laviolette a strong vote of confidence in Montreal on Monday.

Asked if he planned to make a coaching change, Holmgren’s reply was succinct.

“I haven’t even thought along those lines,” he told The Inquirer. “I think it’s been a difficult year because of the (injury) situation. We haven’t had our whole team all year.

“I don’t blame the coaches.”

that is a typical response from a gm who knows that he most likely is fired at the end of the season.

If anyone should go, it should be Holmgren for assembling this D. Fire him and bring Hextall back as GM - before you jump on and mock that suggestion, do some research on how he’s risen up through the ranks of the front-office from pro-scout to assistant GM with the Kings.

I agree phillyd. If anyone needs to go, it’s Holmgren. Regardless of how well they do every season, he always wants to trade 3-4 key players.

Hard to believe Mr Snider is happy with his current coach and GM. Whinning about injuries is a weak excuse. I see other teams with injuries that are headed for the playoffs. Weak GM = Weak Coach= no playoffs. Changes must be made.
