via Islanders.com,
The New York Islanders have signed an affiliation agreement with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. Kalamazoo will join the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, of the American Hockey League as the primary affiliates of the Islanders.
“Having a strong ECHL affiliate is crucial to our organization’s future,” Islanders General Manager, Garth Snow said. “The Kalamazoo Wings have a rich history, and I’m confident that they’ll provide the necessary resources to properly develop our prospects and provide a stepping stone to the AHL and NHL.”
“We are excited about being the ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders,” Kalamazoo President Paul L. Pickard said. “The Islander organization is full of young and talented prospects that will bring energy and a strong work ethics to the K-Wings organization. As part of the Islander family, we will do our part to help them be successful both on and off the ice.”

Not Kzoo area exactly, just have always drove a couple of hours to watch them going back to the old original IHL days.

The Islanders should be affiliated with a Beer League team. Wang has turned them into a laughingstock that no free agent wants to play for.

Kalamazoo remains affiliated with San Jose as well, to the best of my knowledge. They spent last year affiliated with San Jose and Philadelphia.
As a K-Wings fan, I’m not sure how I feel about this. The Sharks were a great affiliate last year in sending players down to work with. We got to see Sexsmith some in K-zoo, and guys like Will Colbert, Matt Jones, etc. One can only hope the Isles are as good an affiliate, but they don;t exactly have a good track record with drafting and development. Yeah, it’s up to Kalamazoo to develop, but they have to get good raw materials to work with after all…
