It’s the cap floor, and the Isles have to stick to it at least, and they were at $52 million prior to the trades with Chicago (floor is at $44 million, and unloading Vanek will get them close to that).

Sure they had to make the floor, but at the very least you would think that retaining half the salary would have net them a bigger return then a paltry 4th rd pick.
