Is Tortorella’s Act Weighing Down The Rangers?

from Steve Silverman of CBS New York,

John Tortorella has created a high-pressure environment around his team.

There are indications that his contentious attitude may be starting to weigh on his team as it settles into its second-round series against the Washington Capitals.

Tortorella’s tightly wound personality did not have any adverse effects during the regular season when the Rangers won the top position in the Eastern Conference and ripped up rivals like the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins on a regular basis. But that approach may be making things more difficult on his players as the postseason moves along.

When Tortorella refuses to answer questions in pregame, postgame and off-day media sessions, he is sending a message to his players. It’s as if he is saying, “I don’t trust these guys and you shouldn’t either. Don’t waste your time answering questions or explaining things to these people.”

Everyone knows not to trust the media.  I’m sure the team is aware of this already.  Stupid comments anyway about creating a high pressure environment.  Makes no sense.

It’s more about the media’s nose being out of joint.  Torts has no time for their stupid questions so they trash him.  They did the same thing to Roger Maris.  They print trash about those they don’t like.

Brookes dumps on him every chance he gets. LOL

The media is trying to force a reaction from Torts or anyone of the Rangers , they are not happy to just report news, (like they supposed to) they try to create news as well.

Seems like the same tactics he used in tampa are starting to creep in…..

Brooks goes after Torts because Torts goes after Brooks.  I don’t know which came first, but the fact is that Tortorella refuses to answer Brooks’ questions, regardless of what he’s asking.  Its downright obnoxious and as a fan I could care less about what a coach and a reporter think of each other.  What I do care about is my team.  How hard can it be for Tortorella to answer a few simple questions to satiate the fans’ desire for information about their team.  He doesn’t have to give away any state secrets.  Just answer a simple question with a simple, civil answer.  Not all the reporters’ questions are stupid.  Some of these guys travel with the team all year long and give up night after night with their families just so Tortorella can snear at them and refuse to give them anything to write about.
