First off, Happy Independence Day to all in the US and elsewhere who call the United States home.
Next, two well respected hockey people have some news for us.
Happy 4th of July. To all following Suter-Parise - Decision 2012, I expect the saga concludes today. Either 1 or 2 teams will be celebrating

Could be a great 4th of July party in Madison Wisconsin. Neil Sheehy tells me the decision will “likely” be announced Wednesday afternnon.

added 8:46am, via ESPN,
Prized free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter are expected to decide their futures Wednesday, sources told ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun.

Funny how when this started I thought the wild had the least chance.

Stop dreaming Wing fans, we are getting both players and you know it. The Wild is going to kick your a**

The timing that both are announcing today plus the fact Parise confirmed he has been talking to Surer makes me think they are going to the same team. And I think that team is gonna be Minnesota. Good for them

Minnesota will get nothing and like it. And you have no right to be disappointed because you had no right to expect to get anything.

Can’t believe both would banish themselves to a decade of futility in Minne.

Hey, if they both want to play for MIN, more power to them. We’ll see how they feel about this decision after 4-5 years of miserable failure. Maybe they’ll retire to Vermont together.

I’m good with them going to Minn. Better than all the other alternatives, besides the Wings of course. The bullshit drama that this whole mess has created makes me think how insane the “Weber Signing” is gonna be next yr. Ooofff….

Maybe. It could be, assuming Suter goes elsewhere (hopefully to Detroit today), that Nashville will be of a different mind, knowing that Weber is almost certainly gone (as opposed to most likely gone).

Agreed. Yesterday I commented that I hope Weber is traded at the deadline and extended, just to avoid the circus. Seems like Nashville should learn if Suter leaves, just like Hamhuis did. The players have no faith in ownership and the town’s not a draw.

I have to wonder, especially if Suter leaves, if Nashville would even consider signing Weber to a short contract or if they would trade his rights…

I’m actually starting to root for Suter and Parise to Minnesota even though either player would look really good in a Penguins jersey.

If that happens, Shero should use his Nashville connections to discuss Weber.

if they both go to the Wild it will be one of the most astounding decisions I’ve seen an athlete make. why would they want to languish in Minnesota for a decade? even the two of them together aren’t good enough to make that team a contender.

Would it be good for hockey? Even if they both go to Minne and miss the playoffs for several years (they were 12 points short this year), will,it be good for the league? I’m not sure.
All that aside, I think goingnto Minne would be, for both, accepting that they are willing to start over. Are they willing to do that at 27. Especially Parise, who just got very close. I have my doubts.

wouldn’t this be like having gaborik and brent burns all over again? They didn’t win anything then why would they win anything now?

Not a bad analogy really although Suter and Parise are a little better players. Two star players can energize a team but not carry them all the way to a Cup.

statistically compare the players and you could argue the other way. The only difference is suter and parise are character guys. But you could argue if you put brent burns who is 27 alongside webber for 7 years maybe he is even better.

I think the current supporting cast is better than during the Burns/Gaborik era. They would be a good playoff candidate with Suter/Parise, not a lock. There are a few holes, especially defensively, but something to build on.
Of course, if you love “elite” teams and loathe parity, then it would be a poor decision by both.
