If you watch the hit from the referee’s perspective (which is ice level), he sees Jones’ arm go up during the hit.
Even though it never makes contact, depending on your angle it can look like it did.
All the ref sees is the back of Geoffrion and Jones’ arm come up high through the hit. He has to call what he sees.
The solution is to keep refs off the ice and make calls from TV monitors.

No. The solution is for refs to only call things they actually SEE. Not to fill in the blanks with guesses.

I don’t even think that was a penalty, let alone a 5 minuter…
Wastelands is 100% correct - the refs cannot make a call on something they THINK they have seen. They have to be 100% certain or they cannot (should not) call it.

Shouldn’t have been a penalty. Geoffrion needs to take clean hits better than that; he only got winded.
