Is It Open Season On Goalies?

from Bob Mitchell of the Toronto Star,
Sabres goalie Ryan Miller is fed up with players running his net but he has a simple solution — start sending players to the penalty box.
“A lot of guys argue they’ve been pushed,” Miller said on Thursday after the Sabres’ morning skate at the Air Canada Centre.
“These guys have the ability to stop on a dime, cut, turn and take a hit. Just a little bit more attention needs to be paid and the only way they’re going to pay attention is if more penalties are being called.”

It was open season after the hit on miller. The fact that vancouver actually scored a goal last night after howard was crushed into the net shows how little the league is concerned about safety, particularly for goalies.

Like there aren’t already enough goalies who love to take dives. It was sickening when Hasek did it for the Red Wings and it’s sickening when Luongo does it for Vancouver now.
Just call the damn game right.

This will stop when a goalie goes to the old method of curing net crashers. Plant a skate firmly. Put blade of stick against skate. Aim knob of handle at crasher’s solar plexis. This will give him a choice; pull up or get seriously hurt. I think the last goalie to try spearing an opponent like that was Ron Hextall. I could be wrong, but nobody took liberties with him.
