Is Kevin Shattenkirk Available?

from Jeremy P. Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,

In what continues to be the case locally, Blues’ trade talk is overshadowing the scheduled events on the NHL calendar.

Over the weekend, the chatter garnered more attention than the league draft, and on Wednesday, word of the club perhaps being interested in dealing defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk consumed the opening day of free agency.

The Blues have been the subject of much trade conjecture over the past couple of months, but for the most part, it’s been confined to a handful of players: T.J. Oshie, Patrik Berglund and David Backes to name a few.

Now, the Blues have put Shattenkirk in the mix, at least gauging interest in what the All-Star could bring, according to league sources and media reports that have cited Edmonton, Columbus and Philadelphia as possible partners.

Blues general manager Doug Armstrong did not immediately return a message late Wednesday. Jordan Neumann, Shattenkirk’s agent, told the Post-Dispatch that he believed the reports are “not true.”

Just do it, Kenny.
Sorry, but I couldn’t help it.

Nyquist, Sproul, Ericsson/Quincey/Smith, 1st round pick. Start there, see what’s on St. Louis’ mind and then adjust.

My best offer would be: Nyquist + Mantha/Svechnikov/1st round pick + Ericsson/Smith

I’d offer Nyquist + Helm + Sproul + Ericsson + 1st for Shattenkirk + one of Goc | Steen | Oshie?

I think Helm is the guy that gets it done.  Something they don’t have enough of.

Just the thought of

Kronner - Shattenkirg
DDK - Green
Marchenko - Smith\Kindl

almost gets me in a positive mood.

Wow.

If they trade Shattenkirk we need to be #1 on the list of contenders for him, but do you really think there’s a chance Steen would come back too?  Steen would be a perfect Red Wing, but that makes it look like a pipe dream to me.

If he IS available, Kenny better be kickin’ tires like he’s never kicked before. Like MoreShoot says, the thought of having Kronwall, Shattenkirk, DeKeyser, and Green as your top 4 is salivatingly delicious.

He’s the kind of guy that would be worth moving some of our key pieces for. He’s young, and really, really good. With 2 more years on his current salary, we would be able to navigate the salary cap a little more easily before needing to resign him.

Now, aside from the fact that he will need a big raise when that happens, I have no idea why the Blues would trade him now. I would try my hardest to move some less important, or overpaid pieces. (Hello JayBo)

100% agreed.

It’s worth including Mantha in a package for him.  He would instantly be our #1 defenseman.  He wouldn’t require a big raise until Datsyuk’s contract expires.  If there’s a chance you make the deal work.

Blues say Shattenkirk is not moving. Not in play.  As you were.

You can’t just throw more players at them to make it sound like they’re getting a better deal.

Talent for talent is the only way this would ever work.

That and Kenny now has to clear out cap space for cap space.

Well then!

I’d offer Nyquist + Helm + Sproul + Ericsson + 1st for Pietrangelo + one of Goc | Steen | Oshie?

fixed.  LOL.

Why do some people on this board feel that Detroit has to be making a trade or signing every day to indicate that the general manager is doing a good job?  I would like to see the Wings unload some of the debris that was/is the blue line corps and gather up some high draft choices.  That can and should be done as we near the start of play and after training camp opens.

Because teams generally don’t trade lottery picks for non-franchise players.

High drafts picks for what you yourself call “debris”?  Sure.
