In-Depth Coverage Leading Up To The Winter Classic

NEW YORK (December 29, 3014) – NHL Network™, NHL.com and NHL Social’s™ programming plans for the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®, the outdoor game between the Chicago Blackhawks® and the Washington Capitals® at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 1 (1 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, TVA) will be filled with several days of exciting, in-depth coverage and activation across the National Hockey League’s media platforms.

NHL Network™

NHL Network™ will begin its 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® live coverage on Tuesday, Dec. 30 with a special edition of NHL Live™ Powered by Constellation from 3-5 p.m. ET, hosted by EJ Hradek and Mark Roe from the NHL Network set overlooking left center field at Nationals Park.

On New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, NHL Network’s three and a half hours of live coverage will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET and offer a first look at the Capitals (11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. ET) and Blackhawks (2:30 – 4:00 p.m. ET) as each team takes to the ice for their first and only practice on the rink at Nationals Park. Host Kathryn Tappen will provide fans with exclusive coverage of the event, including interviews with current and former Capitals and Blackhawks players.

On New Year’s Day, NHL Network’s game day coverage will begin live at 11 a.m. ET and continue through to the 1:00 p.m. ET start of the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®. The live NHL Winter Classic Post-Game Show will air immediately following the game.

The NHL Network talent team in D.C. will feature hosts Tappen and Roe; and analysts Hradek, Barry Melrose, Kevin Weekes, Mike Rupp, Martin Biron, and Billy Jaffe. Dave Strader will call the play-by-play for the League’s international broadcast with analyst Hradek.

NHL Network’s live coverage also will include the unveiling of a special culinary creation from Food Network star – and lifelong hockey fan – Duff Goldman at Spectator Plaza presented by Geico, the free NHL fan festival held at the Fairgrounds on game day.

NHL.com, the ultimate online destination for hockey fans, will house complete coverage of the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® on its www.nhl.com/WinterClassic microsite, including:

· A dedicated webcam at Nationals Park plus daily updates to time-lapse footage of outdoor rink construction;
· Full written, video and photo coverage of key moments of the rink build;
· Features on Blackhawks and Capitals players, including first-person blog entries;
· Recaps of and video clips from the all-access docu-series, Road to the NHL Winter Classic
· Full coverage -- including live streaming -- of the Blackhawks’ and Capitals’ practices at Nationals Park; and
· Video of all press conferences and events, including analysis, interviews, highlights and key moments, plus live streams of the pre- and post-game shows on Jan. 1 from NHL Network

The NHL Social™ team will be on the ground for the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®, including the Spectator Plaza free fan festival, providing exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Fans can join the conversation by using the official hashtag #WinterClassic and follow the NHL on Twitter (@NHL) and Instagram (Instagram.com/NHL) for live, behind-the-scenes updates.

NHL Winter Classic title sponsor, Bridgestone, is partnering with NHL Social for two special digital initiatives:

10-Day Temperature Countdown: Building off Bridgestone’s popular “Conquer the Cold” campaign, NHL Social and Bridgestone are counting down to puck drop with images of the rink build at Nationals Park and corresponding temperature updates, which will be posted on all NHL Social channels and at the League’s nhl.com/WinterClassic microsite.

Bridgestone NHL #WinterClassic Fan Freeze: Fans can join the Bridgestone NHL #WinterClassic Fan Freeze by submitting and sharing photos of how they’re “conquering the cold” in preparation for the much-anticipated outdoor game. A select number of fans who share photos of how they’re planning to celebrate and experience the game using the hashtag #WinterClassic will be featured online at www.nhl.com/FanFreeze.
