from Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star,
-If Buffalo (currently with a 20 per cent chance) wins it, folks will say the league was in debt to new owner Terry Pegula.
-If Arizona (13.5 per cent) wins it, folks will say the league needs a successful team in the desert to "prove" commissioner Gary Bettman was right to keep the team in Glendale.
-If Edmonton (11.5 per cent) wins it, folks will say...well, what's with Edmonton always winning it? That would actually prove there's no conspiracy.
-If Carolina (8.5 per cent) wins it, there'll be some argument about raising league revenues.
And if the Leafs (9.5 per cent) win it? Well, folks will say it has something to with Brendan Shanahan's relationship with Gary Bettman or some Rogers Sportsnet back-room shenanigans go raise the ratings of the moribund franchise with the huge fanbase. McDavid to the Leafs speeds up the rebuild. Leafs in the playoffs would put ratings -- and advertising revenue -- through the roof. In a flat-cap world with a undervalued Canadian dollar, the coffers would rise....Wait...this is starting to make sense.
