I Don’t Even Have A Headline For This

from Shaamini Yogaretnam of the Ottawa Citizen,

Melinda Karlsson has filed an order of protection against the longtime girlfriend of Senators forward Mike Hoffman — alleging a campaign of harassment that plagued the Karlssons after the death of their son and through much of the last NHL season, this newspaper has learned.

The application for a peace bond, sworn in front of Justice of the Peace Louise Logue on May 4, alleges that Monika Caryk, Hoffman’s partner, had threatened Melinda (neé Curry) and husband Erik Karlsson from November 2017 to the date the information was sworn to.

No wonder why Hoffman has been on the block most of the year, and no takers.

Tweet from Marlee Hammond, wife of Andrew who now plays with the Avs,

oh man if you only knew how unsurprising this actually is. horrible just horrible. and the worst part of all of this is how @MelindaCurrey just wanted to keep this private because she’s THAT nice of a person even when a person can be this cruel to her.

Tweet from Julie Turris,

This crossed the line from cyber bullying to something entirely different in April. Unfortunate that this private matter has become public. Incredibly proud of my girl for standing up for herself and her family, it took courage.

from the Ottawa Citizen,

Reached on Tuesday afternoon, Hoffman said, “There’s nothing really for me to say, at this time. That’s all I can say.”

In a subsequent comment, Hoffman said, “There is a 150 per cent chance that my fianceé Monika and I are not involved in any of the accusations that have been pursued (that are) coming our way. We totally understand there’s no place for cyberbullying.

“We’ve offered to co-operate and do anything it takes to find out who is doing this, and support (the Karlssons). Obviously this is a tough time that they’re going through, and we want to find out who is doing this, because for some reason it’s coming into our court, and it’s 150 per cent that it’s not us.

“We have nothing to hide. We’re willing to co-operate in any way to solve this and figure it out, and prove that it wasn’t us.”

Maybe a hacked account?

Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun,

Weeks after captain Erik Karlsson had a face-to-face parking lot confrontation with teammate Mike Hoffman over a belief Hoffman’s fiancée, Monika Caryk, was guilty of unthinkable harassment of his wife, the matter wasn’t settled.

Melinda Karlsson, filed an application for an order of protection alleging Caryk has threatened her and posted “over 1,000 negative and derogatory statements” from Nov. 17 up to and through stillbirth of the Karlsson’s son on March 19.

The accusations go far beyond disturbing: Caryk allegedly wished the child and mother to die and that someone “take out (Karlsson’s) legs to end his career.”

Hoffman emphatically denies Caryk’s involvement.

“We’ve been aware of this situation for months,” said Mike Liut, the managing director of the hockey division at Octagon Agency, which represents Hoffman. “This happened at the end of the year. We’ve been very clear with the club. I’ve talked to the players’ association about it. We’ve been very up front about Mike’s support of Monika and denial of what’s going on. He told that to Erik face-to-face at the end of the season.

This is sounding a lot like high school character assassination drama gone public.
The media court of public opinion is now in session.

The other players’ wives chiming in is interesting to say the least.

You can bet one of the two get traded in the offseason. No way, no how can Hoffman and Karlsson exist on the same team come fall. Even if it was a hacked account there is obviously bitter blood between the two and that spells disaster.

Someone decided to hack an NHL players girlfriends account to harass another players wife?

Really?

And now Karlssons are trying to assassinate the character publicly?

Interesting take.

I can’t imagine that if Hoffman’s fiance really is this crazy of a person, that he would be so adamant about backing her.

It would be far, far, far, far, far, far, far from the first time a spouse or significant other backed someone who was crazy or a POS.

I get that, but he has to realize that his career is over then, no team would ever take him.

Exactly Geo, a precedent or it doesn’t mean there’s no consequence.  There’s a precedent for people using racial slurs, doesn’t mean there isn’t a consequence.

But I do believe based on 3rd parties privy to the situation that what the Karlssons said happened, happened.

Statement from Mike Hoffman’s agent Robert Hooper on Monika Caryk: “Given the seriousness of the allegations, Monika is meeting with her lawyers and any future comment on her course of action will come from them.”
