It was an excessive celebration.

It will be interesting to see what Canada’s resident xenophobe has to say about this tomorrow night on Coach’s Corner

wait… what???

“excessive celebration”?? on an OT winner?! you have to be kidding me. I saw no direct taunting of the other team or anything remotely crossing the line of sportsmanship.

I take it you never played sports huh? that reaction is about what any human would have done after winning a hard fought game in OT at just about any level. How anyone could possibly take issue with this is beyond me.

Exactly.

Simple solution Bruce Garrioch: stop the puck or stop whining.

Word.  Garrioch is just being butt hurt.

That was a pretty normal reaction for a OT game winning goal.

They didn’t show it all. I watched it on NHLCI. Afterward he kept tugging at his Habs crest on pointing up in the stands.

I saw no direct taunting of the other team or anything remotely crossing the line of sportsmanship.

Because that clip didn’t show it. He did it.

Only baseball and hockey. Baseball was just for a few years; hockey was form the age of 5 to 16. I also officiated USA Hockey for 17 years. Nice knee-jerk reaction on your part, though.

that reaction is about what any human would have done after winning a hard fought game in OT at just about any level.

Again, it was the stuff they didn’t show: pointing up in the crowd, towards the Sens bench, pulling on the crest of his jersey.

I made my comment without watching clip, because I knew what it was referring to. After watching it, it only shows half the story.  I guarantee you Garrioch was reacting to the stuff he did that the slip did not show.

“And that”, as Paul Harvey would say, “is the rest of the story”.

I wish he had gotten down on the ice and scooted like a dog across the Sens logo.

From what I’ve heard it was a large group of Habs fans that he was pointing at.  Kind of changes the context.

The great thing is that the Sens can use it as fuel for the next time they play, and they can get sweet revenge by beating the Habs in Montreal on March 15th.

Of course, the more likely scenario is that they get “revenge” by having Jared Cowan try to drive his elbow through Subban’s eye socket…

Added a video to the post with the Senators talking about the celebration.

Personally, I think Garrioch is trying to stir things up.

Youtube user xXxCrosby87xXx has uploaded Subban’s OT winner.  It’s the standard TV procedure of showing the replays of the GWG and offers some short views of Subban flaunting the Habs crest.  Tatar had a similar celebration after scoring his first career goal.

Tatar’s celebration wasn’t even close to Subban’s. Tatar pulled on the crest for two seconds, Subban did it much longer, and repeatedly, pointing to the crowd plus the Sens bench.

I said, “similar.”  Subban’s not the first to over celebrate and taunt the crowd.  Remember Byfuglien and Vancouver?

Then there’s Ted Lindsay’s mock machine gun taunt way back against the Laffs.  That was also an OT winner.

It’s not new.  This is just an over-reaction by Garrioch.

Yawn. Slow news day in Ottawa.

Look, Subban was excited to score the goal - I would be too.

BUT, what he was truly excited about, was the fact that he wasn’t benched for the last half of the 3rd and OT.

This is pretty typical of the Ottawa Senators and their blowhard newspaperman, Garrioch.  And, Red Winger, like dwgs noted, Subban pointed up to the large contingent of Habs fans in the stands, not the Senators’ fans.  That’s it.  Kinda changes the story, doesn’t it?

As for the Sens/Habs, this is how this rivalry is developing.  And, really, the Senators should’ve won this game going away, they had 44 shots at Price, and should’ve scored 6-7 goals, not 4.  So boo hoo hoo.

I guess this was a pretty big deal for Subban since it was only the Habs second win in the last 8 games dating back to their ass kicking in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Subban should remember he only has a Norris Trophy because of Karlson’s injury at the hands of the moron Matt Cooke.
