Horcoff Goal- Was It?

It’s a goal for Shawn Horcoff tonight.  What do you think (go to the halfway point of the video to see some different angles)?

Kicking it in? Not exactly.

Angling his skate and stepping out a bit more to deflect it in? Yes.

Is it against the rules? Nothing would surprise me anymore.

Is it a goal? Toronto says so…and we all know Toronto is 100% right.

To be a disallowed goal, not only does there have to be a “distinct kicking motion” (which there likely was), but the player also has to “propel the puck.”  So while Horcoff may have made a kicking motion, it still deflected in off his skate as opposed to him “kicking” it in.  Too many pundits are getting caught by the term “distinct kicking motion” and forgetting that it still actually has to involve a “kick” of the puck.

Dumb rule anyway.  More the merrier.  As long as it’s not against my team.
