Every time former Vancouver winger Brad May touched the puck during the Avalanche intrasquad game Friday at the University of Denver, the boos were numerous and noticeable. When May disappeared from the bench in the second period and didn't play again, my guesses were: The Avalanche would say he had a groin injury, hockey's catchall explanation for everything from bruised ribs to a hangover. May was yanked from the bench because the Avalanche brass wanted to sidestep further embarrassment, especially with owner Stan Kroenke in attendance.
