Ken Holland was just on WXYT in Detroit. Talked about finding a forward who can get the Wings 20 or so goals. Anticipates some teams having cap issues later in the summer, so they may go after that type of player.
Holland has been trying to get in touch with Belfour today, but hasn't yet, but he will be the Wings goalie as soon as they connect. I swear I heard this, but is my brain fried? Anyone who listened please respond.
added 5:10pm, Still talking, Wings trying to build a program. Most teams have 5-7 key players and must commit to those guys. Wings will find guys that fit in with the Wings during the summer or trade deadline. They have to fit into the cap system. Holland believes the Wings still have a playoff type team and want to keep their younger players in the system.
Talked about Jimmy Howard. Said if he put him in during the playoffs and they lose, pressure is tremendous on him. Wants Howard to play 60 games in Grand Rapids. He is no position to be handed the #1 goalie position but can change the Wings thinking in training camp.
Belfour wants to come into camp knowing he is the #1 goalie and Hasek would have wanted the same.
Now Holland says he hasn't offered anyone the goalie position to anyone. I know what I heard earlier, did anyone else hear it?
added 5:34pm, The guys on WXYT just said it is clear as soon as Holland gets ahold of Belfor's agent, the Wings will make an offer to him.
That is what I heard earlier. Then Holland goes on and talks about Hasek, saying he (Holland) may have some groin issues...
