Hockey Questions Answered By Craig Custance

Craig Custance participated in an online Q & A today at ESPN.

How much cash is Matt Ni$kanen about to pull in? I'd love to keep him in Pittsburgh, but they have younger (cheaper) players they need to slot in the 2nd and 3rd pairings.

Craig Custance- Niskanen wants to stay in Pittsburgh but it won't be cheap. If Andrew MacDonald gets $30 million over 6 years, that should be the starting point for Niskanen. Maybe 6 or 7 times 6.

If you were Garth Snow what would you do with the Islanders 5th Overall Pick. Would you keep it and sacrifice next years pick and a possible Connor McDavid? Or give up this years pick?

Craig Custance- Kevin - I would keep the pick and give up next year's. I think you'd be sending the wrong message to your team and fanbase if you say you want to keep that pick because you're worried you might be the worst team in the league. Show some confidence that your team is going to rebound, make your pick this year and get back on track. Can't worry about the what ifs.

Which teams are likely to be blown up in the offseason?

Craig Custance- Vancouver leads the pack. It'll be interesting to hear what Jim Benning says at his intro. To me, there's no reason to keep any of the veterans around. I'd go completely nuclear.

much more

It’s my gut that Shero and Byslma are the next GM and coach of the Caps. What’s your gut feeling?
Craig Custance (3:24 PM)

My gut feeling is Shero/Trotz.

Aaarrrggghhhxxx…if that happens, I’ll shit my pants. Stay west, Trotz.
