Hockey Notes On The Last Day Of February

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,

- David Poile is not the fire-the-coach-during-the-season kind of general manager. But you have to wonder how long Poile will go with John Hynes in Nashville.

- Has Mike Babcock finished his ‘I’m not a bad guy’ tour yet? It is annoying.

- Honestly, I can’t see anyone beating Tampa Bay Lightning in a best-of-seven series. They have the best goaltender in the NHL and the best defenceman. That’s a tough combination to get through … Will all NFL quarterbacks not hoping to be traded please put up their hands?

- A lot of people screamed at me when I said the Winnipeg Jets won the Pierre-Luc Dubois-for-Patrik Laine trade. And a lot of people screamed at me when I said the Montreal Canadiens won the Shea Weber-for-P.K. Subban deal. A lot of people just like to scream.

- I actually like the Montreal Canadiens’ roster. I like their defence. I like their depth up front. I really like Nick Suzuki. If Carey Price had played better in goal, Claude Julien would still be coaching the team and all would presumably be well … Keep hearing if the Habs don’t turn this season around, Patrick Roy will wind up replacing Marc Bergevin as general manager.

His most recent coaching change happened mid season…
