Sports have an incredible following of fans for reasons beyond the wins and losses. Like any other form of entertainment, there lies a deep psychological component that tests our emotional willpower and attracts the drama we crave. Despite the element of predictability, calculated outcomes and the like, sports such as hockey are primarily driven on aspects of the unknown. It’s this very unpredictability that keeps legions of fans on their edge of their seats season after season.

Hockey fans hold their reputations for loyalty and enthusiasm dearly, and define the game by its ability to evoke such tremendous emotion. In fact, the drama rallied by the sport has not gone unnoticed by the cinematic world, which thrives on such theatrics.

The film industry has released a great many hockey film, touching on the thrill of the game, the eagerness of fans, the commitment of players and the ups and downs of the sport. Below, we have a look at films made for, and possibly by, serious fans of hockey. In essence, only a dedicated fan will fully understand the true passion, as well as the fury, of the game, which are brought to life on screen.

1.The Mighty Ducks (1992)

The Mighty Ducks is a Disney production which was released as a three part series, although none could match the sentiment of the first film. Featuring a rag-tag group of young hockey hopefuls and a worn-out coach in a time of despair, this film truly captures the heart of those who like to cheer for the underdog. Although sometimes a little on the sentimental side, The Mighty Ducks sends a message of hope and perseverance for those who wish to achieve a greater goal.

2. Canada Russia ‘72 (2006)

With the Cold War reaching a climax, and the Soviets going head-to-head against Canada, the hockey match of ‘72 between the respective countries’ teams, was wrought with tension and drama. Like an exciting game of mobile slots at luckyadmiral.com, this one will keep you on the edge of your seats. This documentary brings to the light the political and sometimes, brash, nature of the sport.

3. Goon (2011)

Starring the always audacious Seann William Scott, Goon is an unfiltered, nervy and sometimes, shocking, look into the world of minor league hockey. If you have thick skin and can manage the violence and crude humor, you’ll be able to stomach this one, and maybe even enjoy it. Afterall, that’s hockey.

4. The Rocket: The Maurice Richard Story (2005)

Taking you back to the 1950’s when it all began, this epic film takes us through the life of legendary Maurice Richard. Covering Richard’s humble beginnings, as well as his celebrity status playing for The Canadiens, this is a must for all hardcore hockey fans.

5. Slapshot (1977)

This Paul Newman classic might be the best known of the bunch. It’s a gritty, violent, unapologetic and overall, realistic, look into the hockey world. This charming film attracts those fans who enjoy the sport for what it truly is, authentic and extreme.

If you’re a true hockey fan, you won’t want to miss these cinematic gems!
