I’ve seen nothing from the NHLPA that they are willing to accept anything less than 54-55% of HRR under current definitions.  Until that changes it doesn’t matter how quickly or slowly the NHL might want to walk the NHLPA past a point they won’t walk to under any circumstances anyway.

But Fehr wasn’t hired to roll over and Bettman’s history suggests he doesn’t play bluff poker, so…

To be fair, EP, it’s pretty hard to pick out one specific thing that causes people to call you names.

Seems the outline of a deal needs to include something close to the following:

1) Players share of revenue with current definition of HRR needs to move to 50% over life of the contract with current salaries grandfathered in. Probably needs to be 5-7 year phase in to achieve 50% level.

2) NHL needs to expand revenue sharing to something close to 25 to 30% of all HRR.

3) Contracts need to be limited to no more than 7 years in duration with equal payments for each year of contract. No front or back loaded deals.

4) Eliminate bonuses. All compensation is included in salary.

5) Restricted free agency lasts 5 years.

6) New CBA should be 10 year deal. To give fans some labor peace.

What you said is so far removed from what McKenzie is saying here that it’s laughable you’re drawing a comparison.

No. what you’ve endlessly been preaching for months is that Fehr is the devil, and the lockout will be all his fault.

The players hired Fehr for a reason. The players saw this coming from a mile away, and they went out and hired the best in the business for their own benefit.

This may not be all Bettman’s fault, but blaming Fehr isn’t sound logic. I think you know that, deep in your heart, but you wanted someone to blame.

Lil’ Gary isn’t going to get everything his ownership overlords want. The NHLPA was bent over the table with the last contract negotiation. I’m fairly certain most of us here remember that. Particularly, the majority of players who went on TV and radio and said they’d never accept a salary cap.

Famous last words.

The players are far better off now under Fehr, who has stressed a unity amongst them—something they never had with Goodenow.

I digress, though. We could all argue for or against the two major players in these contract negotiations (or the lack thereof) until our fingers fall off. The fact is, we have Bettman and Fehr, and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
