Gut Feeling Says Selanne Returns Next Season

Teemu Selanne will not retire.

Instead, the greatest Duck ever will come back to play for the team during the 2012-13 season.

That’s my gut feeling after spending 20 minutes with Selanne following practice Saturday.

Yeah, it was only 20 minutes of a career that would be entering its 20th NHL season. And, sure, it’s not my gut that will decide Selanne’s fate beyond the next seven games.

But, before our conversation, I was certain — fairly certain — this would be his final season. Put it this way: I would have been willing to bet your paycheck on it.

Though he committed to nothing Saturday, in doing so — or not doing so, technically — he convinced me he will return.
