Gordie Howe Adored In Montreal

Earlier today, Dave Stubbs tweeted this.
I’ve just spent an hour alone w/ Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe. Feature to come. Well worth missing #Habs for tonight
from Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette,
“The Canadiens are not having a good season,” Gordie Howe is told, riding an escalator in Montreal’s Trudeau Airport. “No playoffs. Chaos, pretty much. Total disarray.”
With a twinkle in his eye, Howe pounces with the reply.
“Good!”
And then he bursts into laughter.
Mr. Hockey had his share of lively battles with the Canadiens through the decades, and perhaps there’s a little residue still in his veins.
Maybe it’s because he’s just stepped off a Friday afternoon flight from Detroit with his son, Marty, and instead of breezing through Customs, as this Canadian icon does everywhere else in this land, he was funnelled into a dozens-long queue toward immigration, where the Howes lingered until an agent recognized Gordie and yanked them out.
No, Gordie’s poke at the Canadiens is simply because he still has a wicked sense of humour and he can’t resist the chance to needle the club that was a thorn in his side, and vice-versa, through his glorious 26-season NHL career.
