In goalie years, Belfour should be retired by now. Instead, he and Ottawa's Dominik Hasek belong to a small group of nine who have managed to play past their 40th birthday. Sports physicians will tell you that goaltending is a relentless assault on the body. Falling into the butterfly position again and again "is like doing a million squats," one NHLPA-registered doctor says. "There's not a lot of goalies who play past the age of 40, and there's a reason for that," says Dr. Michael Clarfield, the Leafs' team doctor from 1989 to 2005. "At some point, they can't do it any more. For most goalies, that's well before the age of 40."more
