Go To Detroit Mo

from Jean-Jacques Taylor of the Dallas Morning News,
Mike Modano should wear the hated Detroit Red Wings’ red sweater this season as long as he’s playing because he can’t imagine life without hockey – not because his ego needs some TLC.
It’s easy to see why Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk made the difficult, but correct, decision to inform Modano that he’d played his last season for the Stars.
Like most superstars, especially those who spend the bulk of their career with one team, Modano feels a certain sense of entitlement.
Talk to enough people within the organization and they’ll tell you that Modano, while still likeable, had become a curmudgeon the last couple of seasons.

Is a curmudgeon a little monster that steals skittles from little kids?

Well I’d be a curmudgeon too if I was stuck playing with a team full of assholes like the Stars. I can’t say I blame Mike for being pissy the last couple of years.

I’m pretty sure Ghandi would have thrown stuff around the locker room a couple of times if he’d been a Star the past couple of seasons. They’ve become a terrible org, and have been bringing in many a bad egg. Who wants to share a dressing room with Sean Avery, after all?

No former great player ever wants to be told his role is changing. They always see themselves the way they’ve always been…
Apparently Mr. Taylor has never heard of one Steve Yzerman, a great player who willingly embraced his changing role with the “hated” Wings. There are selfless players in sports. Whether Modano is one of them or not is a moot point.
We need the Red Wing’s players of the future (like Abbi) to have a chance to show what they can do, not languish on the 4th line so Mr. Mike can make a grand exit from the game.

“...so Mr. Mike can make a grand exit from the game. “
Lets not forget the grand finales he had last year in Minnesota and Dallas.

I once loved the idea of Modano in a Wings sweater.
Once.
