Kadri has done an amazing job getting AO off his game. I hope Trotz took him aside in the second intermission and got him to refocus, otherwise it is only good for Toronto

What am I missing?

Kadri goes low right into Ovechkin’s knee.

He clearly, intentionally lowers his body to catch Ovechkin right at knee level.

That’s a bad hit and a dirty, Marchand-type of play.

Hip checks are not illegal, it’s just that no one does it anymore. I think you might be justified in giving Kadri a penalty because he caught some of ovechkin’s knee, but it’s not a dirty play.

If players don’t want hip checks in the game, then change the rule and outlaw them, but don’t get upset if some goes low and upends a guy.

A hip check is a great play if it’s done right.

One obviously thinks of some of the Russians who almost made it an art form.

But just lowering your hips/behind right into a guy’s knee
is, to me, more like just targeting his knee for a probably injury.

It’s a risky hit - in general - and risky to the recipient, certainly.
But it should also be risky for the perpetrator because if it’s
not done cleanly, then, whether by intent or inability or
just bad luck, the results can be pretty bad.

Kadri doesn’t strike me as interested in or able to deliver
a clean hip check. He’s just lowering his body right into Ovechkin’s
knee.

That doesn’t look like a textbook, solid hit by any means.  Kadri goes at him very awkwardly.

Is it illegal? Who knows. Kadri has a history of these sorts of strange hits

If you don’t think that hit was dirty you’re just plain ignorant.  This low hit direct to the knee could have been a major injury which some can be career threatening.  It’s just like those hits where the player intentionally sticks his leg out to try and hit the other players knee.  He didn’t just hit some of his knee.  He hit the whole knee and sent him flying.  Kadri is a dirty player and must be reading Marchand’s playbook

Added Coach’s Corner video to the post, Cherry believes the hit was fine.

No video, but Mike Milbury said it was fine but if the NHL wants to fix it, take out hip checks from the game.

Taking out a knee is the same regardless of how it’s executed.

Utter BS.

He didn’t take anything out.  He threw a hip check and Ovechkin tried to dodge it.  That’s not Kadri’s fault.

This is in ZERO WAYS related to “taking out a knee”.

So why not hit him shoulder to shoulder?  Because Ovie would have mowed him down and Kadri is a cheap bitch that can’t stand up to him.

Those hits are really fun for fans to watch but are really dangerous to players.  Thanks for the examples
