Ducks say lower-body injury, doubtful for a return tonight.

No penalty on the play…?????

For the youngsters out there…it’s called a hip check….and YES!!...it’s a legal hit.

I would much prefer to see guys getting upended with a hip check,  than being concussed with hits to the head with ballistic nylon shoulder/elbow pads.

Yeah, but this was clipping. He went waaay low. I mean, screw Perry, but that’s a dangerous play.

Bad hip check. you have to aim for at least the player’s waist, if not “bellybutton height.” You want the player’s thighs to cushion the blow—or mostly harmless somersault!

via Eric Stephens of the OC Register,

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau didn’t have a medical report on Perry but said his leading goal scorer will travel with the team to Winnipeg, where they will re-evaluate him.

“You can all tell where he got hit,” Boudreau said. “We’ll see more and we’ll know more tomorrow.”
The play looked much like the one that left wing Patrick Maroon suffered when he was checked by Buffalo’s Josh Gorges in the season’s first week. Maroon had a sprained left MCL as a result and missed 2 1/2 weeks of action.

“A little bit similar,” Boudreau said. “Ballard’s done that a couple of times on us. He hits low. I don’t know if it was too low or what because I didn’t want to look at it yet. So I’ll look at it on the plane.

If half of Perry’s cheap shots were as debatable as a slightly too low hip check, I might have some sympathy for him here, but probably not:)
