Gerber Solid As Starter

from the CP via the Ottawa Sun,
After biding his time as a backup to J.S. Giguere in Anaheim, the 31-year-old Gerber finally got his wish when Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford decided to take a chance on him in a June 2004 trade that sent Tomas Malec and a third-round pick to the Ducks. "It was always a dream for me to be a starter somewhere," Gerber said yesterday. "It didn't happen in Anaheim. I was lucky to be traded here. They offered me that chance and I'm really thankful for that."
