Geoff Molson On Why The Ticket Prices Increased In Montreal

from Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette,

Canadiens owner Geoff Molson was asked about the price hikes when he attended coach Michel Therrien’s annual charity golf tournament on Tuesday at Club de Golf Le Mirage in Terrebonne.

“It’s been several years that we have not taken a price increase (in the upper bowl) … and the market dictated that it was time for us to do that,” Molson said. “We’re still pretty proud of the fact that we have thousands of tickets that are under $60 that are offered to our fans. And there aren’t very many arenas … sold-out arenas in North America that can offer that.”

One longtime season-ticket holder in the blues recently contacted the Montreal Gazette after learning his pair of tickets (located four rows from the roof at the Bell Centre) will cost $4,002.77 this season, up from $3,227.87 last year....

While speaking with the media at Therrien’s golf tournament, Molson said he was excited about his team heading into the 2015-16 season as the Canadiens look to end a Stanley Cup drought that has reached 22 years — and counting.

“I think we’ve made a couple of nice additions … one through trade (Zack Kassian from Vancouver in exchange for Brandon Prust) and one through signing (free-agent Alex Semin),” Molson said.

“I still believe we have a very young team, a team that has performed very well for the past few seasons. It’s one of the better teams in the East, so hopefully that will continue.”
