Gary Bettman Will Be Inducted Into The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame

via NHL.com,

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will be inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

Bettman was one of 11 professionals from across the industry named to the 2018 induction class, which was announced Thursday. They will be honored at a ceremony at the New York Hilton Hotel in Manhattan on Dec. 11.

"This year's class continues our strong tradition of honoring those in our industry who have made a difference both in front of and behind the camera and even in the executive board rooms," said Ken Aagaard, Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame chairman.

The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame induction will come a month after Bettman is inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on Nov. 12.

Among those joining Bettman in the 2018 class are tennis commentator Mary Carillo, longtime NBC Sports broadcaster Bob Costas, sports documentarian Bud Greenspan, veteran broadcaster Jim Nantz and ESPN college basketball announcer Dick Vitale.

Maybe he’ll find greener pastures after the Seattle thing is all wrapped up.

There’s never been a better play-by-play guy than Bettman. I love listening to him call a game.

LOL   WTF

Someone must’ve really f’d up and lil Gary called in a favor; or this HOF is even more of a waste than the others.

This is especially insane, considering how hard he’s worked his entire career as commissioner to put NHL writers out of work for months at a time.

Also curious what he ever did in broadcasting, other than being a terrible interview.

What does this have to do with broadcasting?

So, I’m guessing no one here even looked up what this HOF literally says in their “About” page on their website:

“Our goal is simple: to honor those from across the entire spectrum of the sports broadcast industry who impacted, directly or indirectly, the way sports television is produced. Each class demonstrates a range and diversity of inductees who truly represent the many facets of our unique business. Here league commissioners stand next to directors, producers, technologists, management and operations.”

Seriously, it’s easy to hate Bettman, but to attack him over this is a bit ridiculous.  He’s not even the first commish to get in there.

Yes in Detroit. In Pittsburgh they will retire a jersey with his name in his honor. LOL
