Dan Rosen of NHL.com,

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday that the League is exploring every reasonable option for resuming the 2019-20 season and ensuring that it is ready to fully spring into action as soon as the “green light” is given by the authorities and medical professionals.

“From an NHL standpoint, and I’m sure this is what the other leagues are doing, we’re viewing all of our options,” Commissioner Bettman said to Mike Tirico on “Lunch Talk Live” on NBCSN. “We want to be ready to go as soon as we get a green light, and the green light may not be crystal clear because there may still be some places in the country you can’t play and other places where you can.

“We’re looking at all options. Nothing has been ruled in, nothing has been ruled out. It’s largely going to be determined what we do by how much time there is, because we have next season to focus on as well, and the health of the country, and by the country, I mean both Canada and the U.S., obviously.”

You know, I used to be somewhat indifferent to Bettman. Now, I see all this and his desperation to proceed with the season despite being in the midst of a pandemic, and I’m really growing to dislike him. Any attempt to resume play under these conditions puts people at risk. It yanks doctors from the front lines to care for players who get injured. Those doctors may even be carrying the virus and not know it They may test negative despite having it (false negative tests have happened before), and spreading it to players. Those doctors are currently caring for patients in an environment where we already don’t have enough doctors to care for everyone.

In short, it puts -*everyone* at risk. Stop this foolishness Gary, and just pull the bloody plug already. I understand wanting to convey feelings of hope, but there are way too many downsides to trying to continue.

Now, I see all this and his desperation to proceed with the season despite being in the midst of a pandemic, and I’m really growing to dislike him.

It’s easy to read that first paragraph and jump to conclusions, but Bettman continues with the following:

“We’re looking at all options. Nothing has been ruled in, nothing has been ruled out. It’s largely going to be determined what we do by how much time there is, because we have next season to focus on as well, and the health of the country, and by the country, I mean both Canada and the U.S., obviously.”

Look, people in leadership positions have to have plan for any scenario.  It’s just like when a coach calls a time out, they are telling the players what to do if they win the faceoff and what to do if they lose the faceoff.  Plan for anything to happen so you’re ready.

If I were commissioner, I’d be doing the same damn thing Gary is doing.  Maybe they think there is little hope…maybe they think there is a lot of hope.  No one freaking knows.

No one freaking knows.  That goes for everyone….
