Nick Cotsonika has been tweeting up a storm from the 10th Annual PrimeTime Sport Management Conference in Toronto today.
Gary Bettman, Bill Daley, Brian Burke and others are speaking today.
This from Bettman via Nick's tweets,
Bettman said if you're going to have an international business strategy, you have to have events. NHL has to work with NHLPA. NHL hopes to have a regular presence internationally.
Bettman said ultimately the clubs believe the Olympics are too disruptive to the season and IOC doesn't allow the NHL to promote that it is there.
Bettman points out the Olympics have different effects on different teams, depending on how many players they send.
Bettman said if a Winter Olympics comes back to North America, he's not saying the NHL would go, but it would change the equation.
Two keys for NHL on Olympics: disruption to season, lack of control and promotion of someone else's tournament.
Bettman said the NHL, at least at 10,000 feet, is committed to doing World Cups on a regular basis.
There is more, so check out Nick's twitter feed.
