The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch offers a column chock full of trade rumors and innuendo this morning, but his item of most interest involves Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla. While Iginla's still highly-regarded, Garrioch's sources believe that the Flames' asking price for their aging superstar might prohibit his movement entirely:
Though many believe Iginla is going to be moved before the deadline, Feaster shouldn't expect to hit a home run if he does decide to make a trade. There is concern among executives as to the type of impact Iginla can make.
While many league types were reluctant to speak about Iginla -- even privately without attribution -- many wonder if he could have success with another franchise after being with the Flames for 17 seasons.
"I'm just not sure what kind of impact he would make and you're going to have to give up a lot if you are going to get him," said one league executive. "You're talking about prospects and draft picks. Is it worth it?"
Don't be surprised if nobody attempts to find out the answer if Iginla's play doesn't improve significantly in the next month. The other issue: Are the Flames going to pay Iginla, who is making $7 million, what he wants to stay?
