Game 5 Ticket Prices Skyrocket as Penguins Get Chance to Clinch at Home

At this point, Hooper may be best fit to drive the boat for the San Jose Sharks.

Monday night’s Game 4 was a harsh reality check for the Bay Area team, who saw their Stanley Cup hopes thin with a 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins now own a commanding 3-1 series lead as the series shifts back to Consol Energy Center for Game 5 Thursday.

With Phillip Pritchard and Lord Stanley in the building, Penguins fans in attendance on Thursday will hope the night ends in celebration with the team lifting its fourth Cup in franchise history. However, they’ll be paying top dollar to be on hand, as prices for Game 5 Stanley Cup Final tickets have increased exponentially on the secondary market since the Game 4’s final whistle.

According to online aggregator TiqIQ the average resale price for tickets to Thursday’s game is now $2,146.65. That marks a 52% jump from Monday’s average of $1,409.56.

If that seems like a radical increase, consider the price it would cost just to get past the gates at Consol Energy Center. The cheapest ticket to Game 5 is now $1,217, up 116% from Monday’s get-in price of $564.

Of course, not all fans should be put off by the exorbitant ticket prices. For those traveling to the Steel City to be a part of the potential clincher, flights to Pittsburgh can be arranged from anywhere in the country at relatively affordable costs via Hipmunk. Pittsburgh hotels start from just $83 per night through the end of the week.

Should the Sharks extend the series to a Game 6 back at SAP Center, tickets will be considerably cheaper than in Pittsburgh for Game 5. As it stands now the average secondary market price for Game 6 ticket is $1,320.01. Tickets can be found starting from $758 on TiqIQ.

Hopes are so high for the Penguins to clinch in Game 5 that the game is currently posting a higher average price than that of a potential Game 7 back in Pittsburgh. That game now owns a $1,808.96 average, more than 15% cheaper than Game 5. The get-in price is $891.

The Penguins are just one win removed from their fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history and first in seven years. Playing in their first-ever Stanley Cup Final, the Sharks will need to lead an improbable comeback to even the playing field, and will start with the hope of coming away victorious in the confines of a threatening Pittsburgh crowd Thursday night.
