Gainey Takes Over Coaching Duties

from the Montreal Canadiens,
Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced Saturday major changes to the team's coaching staff. Gainey himself will take over as head coach by interim and Guy Carbonneau will join the team as an associate coach; Doug Jarvis (associate coach) and Roland Melanson (assistant coach) will remain with the club. Claude Julien and Rick Green were relieved of their duties.

'The coach is our boss and he makes everyone accountable and if it doesn't happen, like in any job, the guy in charge pays the price,'' said team captain Saku Koivu. ''But it's always unfortunate when it happens.''
