The new National Hockey League begins on Wednesday night with a trio of games, including the latest meeting in the Battle of Ontario when Ottawa travels to Toronto. Several members of the Globe's sports team were online Wednesday to discuss a range of issues surrounding the league both on and off the ice. Eric Duhatschek, David Naylor, Allan Maki, Grant Kerr, William Houston and David Shoalts took questions on a variety of topics.Answering a question that basically asked, "Can the NHL get any better"?,
William Houston writes: It had better improve. Despite the NHL putting a happy face on the new game, scoring last year was up only marginally. And power plays seemed to account for most of the offensive production. The league has done its part by cracking down on obstruction. Now it's up to the teams to deliver compelling, offensive hockey five on five.read on...long, but hey, it is hockey season...
