Frustrated In Chicago

from the Chicago Tribune,

Brouwer expressed disappointment Tuesday over the reshaping of the team and said he wasn’t the only player to feel that way.

“I kind of thought they would make more of an effort to try and keep the team together, but obviously that’s not the case,” Brouwer told “The Danny Mac Show” on WSCR-AM 670. “And I’ve talked to a couple of guys on the Blackhawks currently that are a little frustrated with how everything is going.

How can it not be frustrating for guys like Toews and Kane to see there entire championship team completely dismantled?  It really shows how poor there organization is run.

The financial realities left after Tallon’s departure and the fact that Chicago’s young team was growing up and due for raises meant change was inevitable for the hawks.

Teams that sentimentally rewarded the players who got them too (or near) the promised land have also faltered in recent years.

I think the management in Chicago deserves some credit for trying to build the best team they can in the present.

Doesn’t Brouwer understand why every one else has been calling them the Rent-a-Hawks this whole time?  Nobody ought to have needed a psychic to this coming Troy.

supposedly the actual interview did not take on the tone implied by the linked article. Brouwer was not angry, he wanted to stay, but understood the situation, as I’m sure all the players there do. Understanding it and still being frustrated by it are possible at the same time. I don’t know how you can say that the hawks are being run poorly when the current GM has to fix what the prior GM screwed up. Tallon throws money around like it aint no thang, Bowman has the task of keeping the core players there, and sorting out who is being overpaid and trying to rectify that situation. Hockey is a business, when a team gets too sentimental they start to fail.

Niklas Hjalmarsson was not a Tallon screw-up.

@mrfluffy

Hjalmarsson signed an offer sheet, not exactly a hawks screw up, but nice try. You can argue about matching it, sure, but do you let him go? And now that Campbell is gone, he plays a bigger role. I think he will be better this year, as some of the players admitted they weren’t into it last year, which is an entirely different problem.

If Bowman was truly that high on him, he should have had him locked up long before Wilson could throw a curveball at him. Bowman screw up? You bet.

It takes two parties to make a contract happen.

you got that right, see Anti Niemi’s arbitration for an example of how two sides can disagree.
