Bad Goal Hurts Flyers

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,
Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov was having a terrific game Sunday until he allowed a brutal wraparound goal to Marian Gaborik, giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead with 5.1 seconds left in the second period.
Bryz said the puck took a “funny bounce” off his stick and that it was like “somebody sucking the puck with a vacuum behind the net.”
more on the Flyers and watch the Gaborik goal. Score tied 1-1, 6 seconds left in the 2nd period and now the Flyers must go into the dressing room down by 1. They did lose the game 5-2.

I am so hoping the next CBA has something similar to the NBA’s with the buyout, one-time amnesty clause to get rid of this guy. He’s Chris Gratton, good player on a mediocre team that wilts when playing for a very good team.

As a fan of a team that feels no sympathy for the contractual plight, I sincerely hope the Flyers are stuck with him, much like the Isles are stuck with Dipietro.
Then again, the Flyers GM can sell anything to anyone (see, Carter, Jeff; Richards, Mike) so I can’t imagine they wouldn’t be able to offload him.
Bryzgalov is the quintessential “great goalie on a bad team, not-so-good goalie on a good team” guy.

Bryz has been playing better as of late but he is still making excuses for his mistakes, he had to know that Gaborik was still behind the net and the puck wasn’t pulled in like a vacuum behind the net pulled the puck in, he just didn’t cover the post and it slipped through at a crucial time of the period.
The quicker Bryz stops playing Obama and blame his team mates or an invisible vacuum in the net, the faster he will be accepted as their premier goalie and he will then play as the premier goalie he was paid to be.
