From MLB GM To Scout For The San Jose Sharks

09/06/2019 at 1:09pm EDT

SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson has announced the following additions to the Sharks scouting department.

Long-time sports executive and former Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) General Manager Ned Colletti (@realnedcolletti)will begin his first season as a professional scout with the Sharks and will primarily focus on scouting at the American Hockey League (@TheAHL) and the National Hockey League (@NHL) levels.

"Ned has an extensive background working in professional sports and talent evaluation and he will bring a fresh perspective to our organization's evaluation process," said Wilson. "This was a unique opportunity to add someone of Ned's experience to our staff."

A native of Chicago, where he religiously attended Chicago Blackhawks games growing up, Colletti has worked in Major League Baseball (@MLB) for nearly 40 years and became one of the winningest executives during the last 20-plus years.

He led the Dodgers as general manager for nine seasons, leading the team to five post-season appearances including three appearances in the National League Championship Series. The five post-season appearances during his tenure equaled the best nine-year period in the history of the Los Angeles franchise. During his nine years as GM, no National League GM won more games than Colletti.

Prior to working in Los Angeles, he began his baseball career with his hometown team, the Chicago Cubs (@Cubs), where he worked for 13 seasons. He left Chicago in 1994 and spent 11 years with the San Francisco Giants (@SFGiants), where he helped change and build a winning culture, serving primarily as their assistant general manager.

Jon Hull (@HullHockey) joins the Sharks scouting department as an amateur scout covering the United States Hockey League (USHL @USHL), after serving as the president of hockey operations and general manager for the Lincoln Stars (@LincolnStars) of the USHL from 2014-2019.

"Jon has had a successful career as a general manager in the USHL, including helping develop players like Josef Korenar, and we're excited to add his expertise and insight to our amateur scouting department," said Wilson.

During his tenure with the Lincoln Stars, the team went 130-148-23 with two playoff appearances. After the 2015-16 season, Hull's second year at the helm of the Stars, he was selected as the USHL General Manager of the Year after the team made the playoffs for the first time in three years.

Prior to his time with the Lincoln Stars, Hull acted as the assistant general manager and director of player personnel for the Muskegon Lumberjacks (@MuskegonJacks) of the USHL for the 2013-14 season, with the team going 30-25-5.

Hull, a native of Kingston, Ontario, currently resides in Illinois with his wife, Stefanie, and their three children, Carter, Kendall, and Kamryn.

After playing 23-years of professional hockey, Tomi Kallio joins San Jose as the Sharks scout for Finland. Most recently, he served as the director of scouting for TPS in the Finnish Elite League.

"Tomi has had an extensive and decorated playing career and we know that he will translate that experience towards sourcing talent from the European leagues," said Wilson.

Kallio was drafted 81st overall by the Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) in the 1995 NHL Draft, before being claimed by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft. He played 140 NHL game from 2000-2003, registering 24 goals and 31 assists, with the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets (@BlueJacketsNHL), and Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers).

Tomi played from 1995-2018 with several European leagues including Liiga, the top Finnish hockey league, and the Swedish Hockey League, formally the Swedish Elite League. He won the Liiga championship with TPS in both 1999 and 2000, and the Swedish Hockey League championship three times - twice with Frolunda HC (2003, 2005), and once with Vaxjo Lakers HC (2015).

Kallio represented Finland nine times in the World Championships, winning three silver medals (1999, 2001, 2007) and two bronze medals (2000, 2006). Additionally, he was a member of Team Finland in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He currently resides in his native Turku, Finland with his wife, Sini, and two children, Wilmer and Valtter.
