Johan Franzen (sprained left MCL) and Chris Chelios (fractured right tibia) were on the ice for the first time since they were injured, both skating before the team started practice.
Franzen fared much better, saying his range of motion feels good and doesn’t anticipate being out as long as he was last year (10 games) with the same type of injury. Chelios only skated for a few minutes and quickly learned he’s not close to returning.
“I felt good,’’ Franzen said. “I’m starting slow so I don’t want to risk anything, just long strides and go in laps.’‘
