Flyers’ Zach Rinaldo elbows Capitals’ Mikhail Grabovski, gets tossed

I heard about this one on Twitter before I saw it, and even before I was able to see the video, I'd figured that this wouldn't yield a suspension. Philadelphia Flyers forward Zach Rinaldo gave Washington Capitals forward Mikhail Grabovski quite the elbow, receiving a major penalty and game misconduct for his efforts...

But Grabovski got back up and played on the Capitals' power play, and as we've seen regarding the Department of Situational Discipline, the NHL tends to penalize based upon injury as opposed to intent.

Shanahan tweeted a few minutes ago,

After further review, Rinaldo stays low. Elbow is tucked. Does not charge. No supplemental discipline warranted.

What he doesn’t say is “blindside hit” “head gets destroyed”.  I guess hits to the head no longer require review as long as the elbow is tucked. Shanahan has become as big a moron at his job as Campbell was before him.

Hit was in the center of the body, Grabovski is just lower then Rinaldo. Shanahan basically says it shouldn’t have been a penalty as Rinaldo did nothing wrong.
