Flyers Admit They Were Not Ready To Play

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,

The Flyers played without emotion and dropped a 5-2 decision, slipping into 14th place in the 15-team Eastern Conference, seven points behind the Rangers, who sit in the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Flyers should have played each shift with desperation because their playoff lives are hanging by a thread.

Instead, they showed all the life of a department-store mannequin while losing for the seventh time in their last nine games.

In short, they played like they can’t wait for the regular season to end.

Afterward, the quotes coming from the losers’ locker room were damning. Many Flyers said they weren’t ready to play.

Again, how can that happen when so much was at stake, when the Flyers had a chance to climb within three points of a playoff spot with 16 games left?

The biggest game of the year and you aren’t ready to play? Totally unacceptable and I hope they choke the rest of the season and then they don’t get the first overall pick. Holmgren and Laviolette need to go. Holmgren put all his eggs in getting any of the big three last year. Laviolette’s system isn’t working anymore and it’s almost like other teams know what’s coming and there’s no adjustment. I will say I’m glad they lost last night, now my April nights have cleared up.

Wayne Simmonds was ready. His goal might have been a complete fluke, but he was engaged all game and played through a pretty awful beating (got hit in the face with pucks, sticks, everything). Really impressed with his battle.

Other thing I noticed is these Schenns are selfish, stupid hockey players with a lot of quit in them. In about two years people will remember that Paul Holmgren traded Mike Richards and James Van Riemsdyk for these two bums and laugh.

JVR, yes, Richards, not so much. His act had worn thin here in Philly. I used to be a huge Richards fan, but by the time they traded him, I was ready to see him go.

Simmonds was a lone warrior!

Richards act may have worn thin, but there was little back-down in his game, something missing this season.

JVR is another management miscalculation.

The positive locker room presence Jagr brought to last year’s team was discounted by management too.

But to give credit where due, Jeff Reese was accurate when he stated “if Bobrovsky can adjust to North American rinks and crease traffic/screens he will become a stud goalie”.  He was right but he did not say it would occur somewhere other than Philly.

The Schens are 2 of the most overrated hockey brothers to EVER play the game(undisciplined and worthless/either shouldnt be allowed to play north american hockey)...Voracek skates like he is trying to get to a fire(uncontrollable) Bryzgala is simply terrible (ive seen midget league hockey players make better moves on goalies and NOT score than what this guy sees)..Coutoria didnt show up this year and i kind of liked that pick…in short we got rid of Richards, Carter, JVR and just about all our $$$ on a goalie they call him…Carter i didn’t mind because EVEN I can score hat tricks in meaningless games on PS3 and still lose…We got SIMMONDS for all that (who i think is and should remain a true FLYER)...because those first guys i mentioned in the beginning aren’t and will never be FLYERS…how about firing the GM and get a F**KN monkey, a real monkey and see what he can do…i bet he lands Bobby Ryan right off the bat…send the shcens, voracek, coutoria, to Anaheim just for RYAN…it cant get any worse for us and maybe it would free up some $$$ to sign a couple high school players from Alaska that are just as good…i am so disappointed in the FLYER organization…i feel like i did when my 1st dog as a child died, truly
