Florida/Chicago Trade

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has acquired C Marty Reasoner from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for C Jeff Taffe.

“We are very pleased to have acquired Marty,” said Tallon. “He is a hard working, veteran center who is good on face-offs and can be counted upon to play in all game situations. We look forward to his contributions to our club.”

Well, that helps a little.  And depending on Niemi’s deal, they could very well sneak in under the cap now, if they fill out the defense with Cullimore and the 4th line with a couple more low-salaried guys, like Taffe.

But if that’s the case, the 3rd defensive pairing and 3rd & 4th lines might get eaten alive in the playoffs if opposing teams choose to do the kind of line-matching that Quenneville was so good at this year.  He certainly won’t have the same kind of flexibility to do the same.  And they had better hope they don’t have many injuries this year…

Looks like Tallon feels bad about the situation he left the Blackhawks in and is now willing to take a little salary off their hands.
