Florida Panthers hire Hal Gill as manager of player development

From the Florida Panthers:

Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that former National Hockey League defenseman Hal Gill will join the Hockey Operations staff as the club’s Manager of Player Development.

Gill will work closely with newly-appointed Director of Player Development Bryan McCabe in monitoring the progress and development of the organization’s prospects.

“We are very pleased to welcome Hal to our organization,” said Tallon. “We are honored to have someone with his level of hockey experience work with our prospects and assist them in developing their young careers.”

A veteran of 1,108 regular season NHL games, Hill, 40, recorded 184 points (36-148-184) and 962 PIM for the Boston Bruins (1997-2006), Toronto Maple Leafs (2006-08), Pittsburgh Penguins (2007-09), Montreal Canadiens (2009-12), Nashville Predators (2011-13) and Philadelphia Flyers (2013-14).

The 6-foot-7, 243-pound, Concord, Mass., native won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009.

Gill has represented the United States in five IIHF World Championships, winning a Bronze Medal in 2004.

Gill was selected by Boston in the eighth round (207th overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
