From the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch:
Which GMs have put up the ‘For Sale’ sign as the final hour approaches? We’re told lots have, but here’s the most active wheelers and dealers followed by the gossip that’s fit to print.
Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving: He wants badly to be active and is willing to accept he hasn’t got a playoff team this spring. Teams are calling about veteran forward Jiri Hudler, who is an unrestricted free agent, along with defenceman Kris Russell. There was talk the Flames were going to re-sign Russell but the word is the two sides aren’t close to a deal but he could fetch north of $5 million on the open market and Calgary may not pay that out. Some wonder if Treliving will be able to get a goalie at this deadline.
Carolina Hurricanes GM Ron Francis: This is a bit of surprise given the fact his team is making a run for a playoff spot but apparently he can’t be deterred by that. The 'Canes are looking to move centre Eric Staal, who told reporters in Ottawa last week he “wouldn’t be crushed” if he got dealt. The list doesn’t stop there. Teams looking for help might want to call about defenceman Ron Hainsey along with forwards Kris Versteeg and Nathan Gerbe. Forward Jeff Skinner’s name has been out there all year but his contract makes him difficult to move.
Continued with many more rumors...
