from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
The Blues exchanged contract numbers with defenseman Eric Brewer and goaltender Manny Legace on Friday and could have deals completed with the two players as soon as today.
The offer to Brewer, 27, is believed to be a multiyear contract worth between $4 million and $5 million a season.
“It’s getting close,” Blues President John Davidson said. “When you get close, though, it’s like when you’re buying a house ... you can get close and then something happens.”
Tkachuk and Guerin aren’t so lucky:
Davidson also said the Blues were not close on deals for Bill Guerin and Keith Tkachuk, who will be unrestricted free agents this summer. The NHL trade deadline is Tuesday.
“We had conversations again (Friday), and again there’s nothing there yet that’s finalized by any means,” Davidson said. “When I say finalized, I mean we may trade, we may not trade. That’s not been totally decided yet.”
