Familiar Face To Some May Be The Host Of TNT Hockey

via Andrew Marchand of the New York Post,

For the start of its NHL studio coverage next season, TNT has already signed Wayne Gretzky as it tries to create a show with buzz akin to its highly successful “Inside the NBA.” For the role of host, TNT has shown interest in NBC’s Liam McHugh, according to sources. No deal is done yet, but McHugh could be in the Ernie Johnson seat as the conductor of what will likely be called “Inside the NHL.”

If they can…do it…but it requires former players that can dish out and take zingers not just ones that can break down x’s and o’s.

It would be nice if they could put together a show with a panel of former players and guys in the know who can be informative AND entertaining.  It drives me nuts watching the NBC crews having such scripted, hard formed discussions.

Compare it to the National pregame shows for the NFL on Fox for instance - those are entertaining even if you don’t know the teams that are about to play.

Agreed TK, McHugh is known by my circle of friends as the question man.  He always has a question for the ‘panel’ and I do wonder if he knows anything about the game.
