from Sheldon C. Good of the Mennonite Weekly Review,
When James Reimer was 15, his parents called a family meeting. Though Harold and Marlene Reimer had originally decided their sons couldn’t play organized sports outside of school, James wanted desperately to play junior hockey.
“We said, ‘James is going to need support, and unless the whole family’s on board, we can’t do this,’ ” Marlene said Oct. 5.
That same year, Reimer became a member of his childhood congregation, Morweena Evangelical Mennonite Church, about 90 miles north of Winnipeg, Man.
Eight years later, the 23-year-old phenom from Arborg, Man., is the starting goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League.
