from Jack Todd at the Montreal Gazette,
The Montreal Canadiens, it’s safe to say, are a team in crisis. They are in a tailspin of epic proportions, with no obvious end in sight.
They have lost six straight games and 10 out of the last 11. In 12 December games, they’ve scored all of 18 goals, including six goals in total in this six-game losing streak.
The perpetually hysterical fan base is, well, perpetually hysterical. They want a big trade (like, now!) and they want head coach Michel Therrien fired (like, yesterday!)
With the pack yowling at his heels, the hardest thing for GM Marc Bergevin to do (unless he has a brilliant trade up his sleeve) is precisely the thing that he should do:
Nothing.
Yes, nothing. As we used to say back in Nebraska where I grew up, this is the time to “dance with the one that brung ya.” To have faith in yourself, your players, and above all your coach, and to keep doing the things that put this team on top in the first place.
