Everything Slow & Minor Trade

from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (reg. req.),
Needing a goalie for their top minor league affiliate, Anaheim acquired Hurme for Portland (AHL). Stepp, 23, will initially be assigned to the Gwinnett Gladiators (ECHL), but he is then expected to join Chicago, the Thrashers' top affiliate. He has played for Portland and Augusta (ECHL) this season. General manager Don Waddell is pursuing other moves, although he said Wednesday nothing is imminent. The NHL trade deadline is next Thursday. "Everything is still pretty slow right now," said Waddell, who hopes to upgrade the Thrashers at center for the playoff push. "With so many teams in contention, no one is looking for draft picks or prospects. They want players to help them now."
